Many of us go into psychology because we want to help others. But the strains of psychotherapy practice often lead to distancing, emotional numbing or "compassion fatigue" that undermines our therapeutic relationship with clients and our satisfaction with work. Through discussion, self-reflection and writing, this retreat will give participants an opportunity to examine compassion fatigue in their own work and develop a self-care strategy to renew their compassionate experience of clients, improve personal satisfaction and increase resilience.
By the end of the retreat, participants will be able to
· Identify sources of strain & compassion fatigue in their practice & work
· Develop internal & external strategies to address those issues
· Create an ongoing practice of self-care & compassion renewal
The retreat will include group interaction and discussion, guided meditation, poetry and music, periods of silence, and time for journaling and individual reflection.
During the retreat, we ask that you keep what other people say confidential, and follow guidelines that respect each other’s experience. No one is required to share personal information or stories, and we refrain from fixing, advising, or correcting each other. We want this to be a time for restoration and renewal - and we’ll have some fun as well!
Who, where and when
I have taught meditation and mindful practice to medical patients and others for many years, and I am pleased to be able to help my fellow mental health professionals adopt these practices in their work and their lives.
The retreat will take place at the beautiful Monte Alverno Retreat Center along the Fox River in Appleton. Please note that even though it is being held at a Catholic retreat center, this retreat is not based in a religious tradition and is open to those with all beliefs.
The May 17-18, 2013 retreat will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and end Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The price of $245 per person (or $225 per person in a group of two or more - with an additional discount for registering early) includes one night in a comfortable private room at Monte Alverno, plus breakfast, lunch and snacks on Saturday.
The total number of participants will be limited, so please register soon for this event. You can do that by emailing email@example.com with your name, address and phone number, or by calling 920-996-0887. You can pay by credit card, PayPal, or personal check. There’s a $25 discount for registering and paying by March 1.
If you need to cancel your registration before May 3, we will refund all your registration fee (less a credit card or PayPal fee, if there was one). If you need to cancel after that date, we will retain $50 of the fee, which we will gladly apply to your registration for another LifePath workshop or retreat.
